Service #1

This session was my first time at the Mission. Esther introduced us to the Mission's workers present at the office that morning. As it was my first day, my task was to cut out clippings from newspaper with any relation to the Mission, the shelter on Bethune House or migrant workers in general, then to date them and file them. Although this was a repetitive task with little significance, I understand not every day doing service will be "saving lives" or even be eventful, so I plan to help out the Mission in any way I can, no matter how menial. Additionally, Charlotte (who I came to service with), asked to interview and fill out the form for a new migrant worker who arrived at the Mission for the first time. However, we realized at the end of the session that this task was perhaps too large for one person, and we could more properly utilise our strengths next time for example the computer-savvy me could type and format, while she asked the questions.
