Service #2

This session, the Mission workers told me they had just received a new shipment of business cards, but unfortunately due to some mishap the numbers had changed, and now had to be counted. Hence, I spent the whole session counting the Mission's new business cards. Although this was slightly arduous, I understood this was a task that had to get done, and if this was the best way I could have helped, I was glad to. I devised a method in which I counted in batches of 25, then staggering those piles' stacking in stacks of 4, until I had a hundred that I then put away. By the end of the session, I had counted half the box, and 2,000 business cards (which was no easy feat, as they also happened to be slightly sticky and difficult to count). Despite the manual aspect and "ineffective" aspect to my work today, I want to help the Mission in any way I can, and although it may not have been the most effective method, I helped the mission complete a meticulous task that would have cost someone else the same amount of time, or even longer (especially if they had slightly slower hands or eyes).

Service Party!

Today we had an Acquaintance party to get to know all the staff and volunteers part of this meaningful project. The food was great, the people were great, and it was great seeing everyone kick back and relax on a Friday afternoon. It was especially nice to see the mission workers' children and watching them play around in St. John's Cathedral.

Service #4

This session we visited on Thursday. We were tasked with administrative tasks: encoding case files into the large database. Although this was relative "menial" work, we had to be meticulous and concentrate on our work, to decipher their handwriting and complete all the case files. Moreover, it made me feel thankful for the life that I have, when recording their wages and their living accommodations and working hours. I hope that through our work, we can improve not only our own work ethic but their lives as well.
